History

In 2001, a developer submitted plans to build a golf course in the Town of Cortlandt, adjacent to the Hollowbrook. As part of the planning process a group of residents became more informed about the Hollowbrook, including its importance as a public drinking water supply. The concerned residents formed a coalition to monitor and protect the Hollowbrook watershed, thus creating the Hollowbrook Water Watch.

The grass-root organization, with assistance from Riverkeeper, received its initial funding through a grant from the Westcheter County District Attorney’s office. We have also received a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program to increase our public outreach and education efforts.

We are currently working to increase our watershed education program and water quality monitoring sites within the Hollowbrook watershed.
