COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES:
- The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Hudson River Estuary Program (HREP) leads a unique regional partnership to restore the Hudson River in ways that support the quality of life so valued by Hudson Valley residents. The mission of the program is to:
- conserve the natural resources for which the Hudson is legendary
- promote full public use and enjoyment of the river
- clean up the pollution that affects our ability to use and enjoy it
The Estuary Program implements the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda through numerous partners in government, the non-profit and business sectors, and concerned citizens. HWW is a HREP grant recipient.
- The Westchester County Citizen Volunteer Monitoring Program (WCCVMP) was established in 2003, through the Safe Drinking Water Act funding distributed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, in order to create a baseline of water quality data on both lotic (streams and rivers) and lentic (ponds and lakes) water bodies and make this water quality history accessible to the public.
NOT-FOR-PROFIT & COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS:
- Riverkeeper’s mission is to protect the ecological integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries, and to safeguard the drinking water supply of New York City and the lower Hudson Valley. Riverkeeper often works in collaboration with other organizations and has formed an important partnership with the Hollowbrook Water Watch.
- Hudson Highlands Land Trust’s is a community-based organization devoted to protecting the natural resources, rural character, and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands. The Land Trust assists HWW in program development and administration.
- The Hudson River Watershed Alliance, an organization dedicated to to protect, conserve and restore the water resources of the Hudson River Basin through collaborative outreach, education, networking, science, information sharing and technical assistance by and for the stakeholders of the region.
- The Clearwater, an organization that is to preserve and protect the Hudson River, its tributaries and related bodies of water. Clearwater conducts innovative environmental programs, advocacy and celebrations in order to inspire and energize the next generation of environmental leaders. The Clearwater was founded in 1969 by music legen and environmental activist Pete Seger. The organization began with the launch of sloop Clearwater - a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries. The 106 foot-long ship was among the first vessels to conduct science-based environmental education aboard a sailing ship, virtually creating the template by which such programs areconducted around the world today.
